Learning Objective: To introduce the topics of weather and climate and explain how they are different. Students will also learn about climate change/global warming through experimentation.

Climate Change Experiment

Activity: Students will discuss the quote, “The environment is everything but me.” -Albert Einstein. This will get them thinking about all the things in their environment.

Students will watch the video from the NASA website to determine and discuss the difference between weather and climate.

Students will complete the Climate Change experiment to learn how climate change will affect our polar ice caps and glaciers.

Day 2

Day 4 The Environment and Me.mp4

Learning Objective: To reflect on the climate change experiment and learn about the effects of climate change on plants and animals. Also, to practice how to start wildflower seeds in a plastic bag.

Materials Needed: Materials Needed:

Wildflower seeds

1 plastic bag

1 coffee filter

Water

Photos and names of local Wisconsin Wildflowers

Activity: Students will discuss the results of the climate change experiment and read about the effects of climate change on plants and animals.

Students will create wildflower seed bags while learning about the parts of the seed and how the seed grows into a plant.

Students will learn about and explore the different types of wildflowers of Wisconsin.

Day 3

Learning Objective: To learn about pollinators, specifically the monarch butterfly, and their importance to the environment.

Materials Needed: Materials Needed:

1 craft stick

4 green pom poms

1 red pom pom

1 tube Gorilla glue

2 pipe cleaners

2 googly eyes

How a Caterpillar becomes a Butterfly video

CATERPILLAR CRAFT

Bees

Milkweed

Activity: Students will learn what pollinators are and some examples of pollinators.

Students will watch the ‘How a Caterpillar becomes a Butterfly’ video and complete a caterpillar craft.

Students will read about the Milkweed plant and the importance of Bees as pollinators.

Day 3 The Environment and Me.mp4

Learning Objective: To learn about and discuss renewable and nonrenewable forms of energy and how they relate to climate change.

Materials Needed: Renewable Energy song

Energy Activities and Reading

Activity: Students will listen to the ‘Renewable Energy’ song and discuss types of renewable and nonrenewable energy sources.

Students will complete the ‘Energy Activities and Reading’ document to learn more about the different forms of energy.

Learning Objective: To discuss ways we can help our environment stay healthy and prevent global warming. Additionally, students will review and share what they have learned during the course.

How to Make a Bag from an Old Tshirt video

Activity: Students will read about and discuss ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle and watch a video about creating a bag from an old Tshirt.

Students will review/discuss what they have learned throughout the course and listen to the ‘This is Our World’ song.
