Activity: Students will get to make a model of the brain out of playdoh while learning the different parts of the brain what their role is.

Students will watch the “Grow Your Brain” video and select an activity of their choosing from the Brain Games handout.

Optional additional online reading available (audio option included) to learn more about the nervous system.

Learning Objective: To learn the anatomy of the heart and how blood circulates throughout their body. Students will learn and discuss ways to keep their heart healthy.

Materials Needed: 4 containers of playdoh

Activity: Students will try to determine the answers to the Heart Trivia handout.

Students will create a model of the heart, including the major blood vessels using playdoh.

Discussion about how to keep one’s heart healthy.

Optional additional online reading available (audio option included) to learn more about the cardiovascular system.

Day 3

Learning Objective: To learn about the components of the respiratory system and what happens inside our lungs

Materials Needed: 2 paper bags, 2 plastic straws, tape, scissor, and a package of wikki stix

When Lungs Don't Work Well and How to Keep Your Lungs Healthy

Activity: Students will listen to a video describing the respiratory system.

Students will create a paper bag model of their lungs to learn about the anatomy and functions of the lungs.

Optional additional reading about asthma and how to keep their lungs healthy.

Day 4

Learning Objective: To learn about the skeletal system and how to protect and strengthen it. Students will try to practice some basic yoga poses.

Activity: The teacher will read the book “Dem Bones” and describe parts of the skeletal system.

Discussion about what yoga is and the health benefits it provides to our skeletal system and the rest of our body.

Students will be given the opportunity to try yoga and to practice during class time and/or at home at a separate time.

Learning Objective: To review what they have learned during the course and share their thoughts about maintaining a healthy body.

Materials Needed: None

Activity: Students will review what they have learned about the four human body systems that were covered in the course and discuss ways of keeping their own body systems healthy.
